SAN MARINO'S FIRST VOYAGE
MS San Marino's first voyage started at Luiz Rosa's Bar, Island of Gipóia in Angra dos Reis, RJ, Brazil 1994. To Vitória, through rough seas in the famous Cape of São Tomé, where so many shipwrecks have been registered. Scales in Abrolhos, Ilhéus, Camamú. From there to Aracaju (1995) where the legendary Zé Peixe (bay pilot who boards ships swimming) took us in to port in midst of turbulent and tempestuous seas. Entered Natal in June 1995, to our first ocean crossing (10 days) in route to Cape Vert. Cape Vert, Tenerife, three more months. Tenerife, Gran Canary Islands, Lanzarote, Gibraltar, with it's frantic combination of passing seaman and mixed spanish/english population, completing the atlantic crossing. September 1995 – Leaving Gibraltar in route to Torrevieja, Spain, starting our Mediterranean journey. September 2000 – Back to Gibraltar, after navigating each mile along the coasts of Spain, France, Italy (Mediterranean and Adriatic), Croatia, Greece, Crete, Turkey, Corsica and Baleares. From Gibraltar a new passage, now in route to the Caribbean After a 30 days journey arrival in Barbados. The longest passage (from Cape Vert to Barbados) was made in 13 days, 2200 nautical miles. One year in the Caribbean, a a difficult return to Brazil, via Cayenne. Entrance in Belém in may 2002. The passage vas tough, with lots of rain, fog, rough seas, and contrary currents. Amazon River until Paritins. Fortaleza, Salvador and back again in Angra dos Reis. In June 26, 2003, back at Liuz Rosa's Bar, starting point in 1994. |
